Faramir is Boromir’s younger brother in J. R. R. Tolkien’s epic fantasy The Lord of the Rings, in which the fantasy world of Middle Earth is at odds with evil forces at the helm of an evil lord Sauron who is intent on taking over the world and his one ring of power. Faramir appears in the second book in the trilogy, The Two Towers Faramir is the second son of Denethor II, who is the Steward of Gondor. He is first introduced when he crosses Frodo Baggins, the hobbit ring bearer, on his quest to Mordor to destroy Sauron’s ring. Faramir is here presented with an opportunity to take possession of the one ring in the name of Gondor which is currently under siege from Sauron’s forces. He is able to overcome this temptation and ends up helping Frodo on his way. In the third book of the trilogy, The Return of the King, Faramir leads the forces of Gondor during the War of the Ring. almost being killed, but later recovering. He ends by winning the love of Eowyn of Rohan, tying their two kingdoms together once more and succeeding his father as the Steward of Gondor. Tolkien was to have said much later on that of all the characters in The Lord of the Rings, Faramir represented him the most, and he had even deliberately wrote in several traits of his own into Faramir’s story.
