He is one of the most popular and best-selling authors of all time, and has won the World Fantasy Award, Nebula Award, Bram Stoker Award, as well as several others. Stephen King has also edited Best American Short Stories and published several books of short stories. Stephen King’s novels and short stories have been made into a large number of movies, including the famous horror film “It,” which features a murderous clown named “Pennywise.” Stephen King is a long-time resident of Maine, and sets many of his stories there, including “Salem’s Lot” and others. King’s “Dark Tower” series has been hailed as one of the seminal pieces of fantasy and science fiction, and his extended universe, unofficially called “The Dark Tower universe,” has been compared in scope and themes to Lovecraft’s Cthulhu mythos. Many of the themes in King’s stories revolve around small-town life, married couples, conventional movie monsters and horror culture, and children. Some of the more famous short stories by Stephen King include “Children of the Corn” and “The Lawnmower Man,” both of which were made into feature-length films. As a child, King was interested in horror comics and movies, and was noted to have fascination with the morbid and frightening. Stephen King is a member of the Rock Bottom Remainders, along with Dave Barry and other famous writers.
